Last Tuesday, a civil lawsuit was filed naming Ryan Martinez and his parents, Bryan and Adelita Martinez.

Martinez faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.

Martinez was arrested Sept. 28 following a shooting at the site where local officials had planned to re-install a statue of conquistador Juan de Oñate. Before the demonstration, officials had already decided against the installation of the controversial piece.

Jacob Johns, of Spokane, Washington, was seriously injured after he was struck by the one shot that was fired.

But the lawsuit says his parents should be held accountable too.

The suit states Bryan and Adelita were there in 2018 when the FBI questioned Martinez over threats he made online against the federal government.

The lawsuit goes on to say Martinez’s parents knew he had an illegal rifle and was using a 3D printer at their home in Sandia Park to make parts that illegally convert semi-automatic rifles into fully automatic fire.

According to the lawsuit, a neighbor told Martinez’s parents that he saw him walking around their gated community at night with an AR-15-style rifle and a handgun.

Martinez is in jail while he waits for his trial. Jury selection is scheduled for May.

  1. What is an “illegal rifle”? Ya gotta be specific bcuz there are no “illegal rifles”. If he had an illegally converted rifle, that’s what you say.
