Edgewood Mayor Ken Brennan.

After losing to incumbent Matthew McQueen by a 61%-39% margin to win New Mexico’s District 50 state representative seat, Edgewood Mayor Ken Brennan said he plans to run for re-election to the commission in November next year.

In addition to his plans for re-election, Brennan is currently focused on his duties as mayor and seeking funding for the $4 million continued project to pave Horton Road, which is in poor condition.

He is currently working with the Regional Transportation Planning Organization to find grants to fund the project and address this issue promptly.

Currently, the town of Edgewood faces serious infrastructure troubles which include Horton Road.

“There’s three miles of Horton Road that’s still gravel and dirt, and there’s one mile section of it that is nothing but packed dirt. So when it’s wet, it’s impossible, and that’s becoming an issue,” Brennan said.

Brennan outlined Edgewood’s 2024 legislative priorities to include nearly $30 million in infrastructure and quality-of-life projects.

Some of the key initiatives highlighted have been a $12 million water quality improvement plant, $9.3 million for road paving, $750,000 for sewer upgrades and $5.5 million for recreation.

Additionally, Brennan is pushing for more straightforward state laws after a disputed mayoral change

Brennan also commented that he will receive the first report on the MyBlue Ride-Sharing Service this December to assess the impact of the service in the Edgewood community.

The North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD) launched its MyBlue ride-sharing service in Edgewood on Oct. 15.

The app operates on weekdays and offers door-to-door service for $1 within Edgewood. The fares were waived as part of a free-ride promotion that ended Nov. 15. MyBlue also reinstated $1 fares in Española and Taos.

Brennan was also asked to comment on the recent Planning and Zoning meeting concerning Campbell Ranch’s Minor Subdivision Request but he could not provide input as the governing body is prohibited from participating in such hearings to prevent potential conflicts of interest.
