Rumor Brewing in Cedar Crest successfully closed its Kickstarter campaign on Feb. 10, having collected its goal of $10,000 just in time.

“We made it to our goal and we couldn’t have done without you,” shared Patrick Johnson, owner of Rumor Brewing, via Instagram.

This family-friendly expansion stems from the brewery’s transition into a family-friendly restaurant, attracting families for outdoor activities.

The company plans to enhance its family-friendly reputation and uphold its vision of creating a space for people of all ages.

The area will encompass a children’s playground and offer games such as cornhole, giant Jenga, chess boards and frisbee, among plenty of other activities.

The playground is centered around a strong sense of community and is inspired by cities like Austin, Portland and Berlin.

“Some of the strongest feedback that we have received during our campaign has been enthusiasm for developing family-friendly infrastructure in the Albuquerque area. People have referenced other cities…and are excited to help spur such developments here,” Johnson said.

Johnson also shared that this mission has gained support from playground experts, commercial installers and a regional inspector.

Johnson said two commercial installers have directed him and his team on how to source materials and contact a regional playground inspector to help ensure the area is up to standards and, most importantly, safe.

“We didn’t know anything about playground codes prior to this project. (These are) all great developments for the prospects of our campaign,” said Johnson.

Rumor Brewing is also exploring adding a frisbee golf course in collaboration with the City of Albuquerque’s Open Space Division, with support and advice from a former frisbee golf champion.

“Our friend Rhonda, who happens to deliver our water, is a former frisbee golf champion who has offered to help us develop a course. She has the resources to help design and implement the infrastructure,” said Johnson.

More updates on this will be provided after the official end of the fundraising campaign.

Rumor Brewing encourages the public’s participation, as “exciting opportunities await” throughout the initiative, and it accepts all the support it can get.
