The East Mountains headquarters for the Bernalillo County Democratic Party were vandalized Saturday night.

According to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, volunteers arrived at the office on N. Highway 14 in Cedar Crest on Sunday, July 14, and found several windows of the office had been hit with almost a dozen eggs.

According to Daniel Garcia, spokesperson for the Democratic Party of New Mexico, there was no other physical damage to the building..

“We are concerned that the local East Mountains Democrats Office was egged, but thankfully, no one was injured, and the damage was minimal,” said Garcia. “No organization or individual should be targeted with violence, threats, or vandalism for participating in the political process, regardless of party affiliation. Being able to partake in political activities freely is one of the great qualities of our country, and everyone should be able to do so safely.”

The volunteers told BCSO that the last time this happened to the office was around the time of the last general election in 2020. There are no surveillance cameras around the building.

BCSO said there are currently no suspects, but that they would be doing additional patrols of the area.

BCSO said anyone with information regarding the vandalism should call the Crime Stoppers tipline at 505-843-STOP or visit their website at crimestoppersnm.com.
